- Client: I have setup change management on my iFIX 4.0 scada server Since then I cannot view the database on a remote node. I understand that changes are not allowed on the view node because of revision control but can I have at least a read-only database manager from aniClient.
- Client: Is there a way to have iFIX release the database file so that I can overwrite a "clean" database on it. I am playing around with backing up my database, and having a new file every month. I am using iFIX ODBC (have WSQLODC.EXE running as service) to connect to my data source.
- Client: We are an OEM & make equipment that has few models. We use PLC & HMI. My control consultant tells me that I have to download new and different program for each machine we make. It has created a nightmare for us to manage all these copies of programs. Any suggestion will be a big relief.

- Client: I have an old project done in Wonderware 7.1 that I need to update to a new project name and location. There are a few issues that I am facing. #1. How do I transport a project? #2. The old project had passwords and levels, but after startup the customer took custody of the passwords and changed our login. The login was setup for 9999 so I could have full access to the system. How do I eliminate the old password structure and create a new one with the new project? #3. One of my old projects cannot be opened because it is "being edited" by another user. The system currently is stand alone on my laptop. How do I get the old project released so I can copy some of the useable screens to the new project? #4. How do I prevent the above problems, #2 and #3, from being repeated?
- Client: I have Wonderware’s 3 InSQL running for 3 subsystems. Typically, I have an InSQL connected to 2 DAS(I/O) server each. I have 8 clients. If I am planning to merge all InSQL as one, still running on 3 pairs of DAS servers and 8 clients. Is there an issue for using Window2003 server (standard edition) for my new InSQL server or will Enterprise edition be required?
- Client: I'm using Windowmakerver 7.1. Need examples of window scripts to convert a decimal number (i/o integer or memory integer) to a hex number? I have a screen where a tag is displayed and I want it displayed in hex. Or is there another way (besides scripting) to do this?
- Client: I have problem with dumping tags from the InTouch 10.0 application. When I try to dump tags I get Windows application crash screen (Send/Dont send report). I've tried to do Update use counts, delete unused tags, everything went fine, but DB Dump still crashes. Any help?
- Client: My PLC system is hardwired to some VFD and PQM devices. I need to make them more integrated requiring communications. I was told to purchase some third party hardware. I do not want to introduce another product as we already have dependencies on several vendors. Any suggestions?

- Client: Our plant uses various PLCs & HMIs. Whenever there is a problem, the techs & operators have to spend a lot of time in diagnosing the problem on a PLC. Can you help us control & mitigate this downtime?
- Client: I was wondering if it is possible to interact with the WLAN chip of your Laptop/PC through Labview so you can transmit/receive your data straight from Labview to the WLAN transiever (802.11) to outside world and vice versa.
- Client: We have a SCADA system & need to exchange data with another software bidirectionally.
- Client: We are using Rockwell RSlinx and RSview32, we have a Server Running Windows 2003 Server SP2 R2 Standard (as a workgroup, NO DOMAIN CONTROLLERS). We also have a Client Workstation running Windows 2000 SP4 with RSview32 Client Software. Every time we try and connect the Client to the Server with RSview we get an error (RPC Server is unavailable). We've set many DCOM option and also disabled security for the RPC service (RPC Service is running) and still we cannot connect, we keep getting this error. We've searched all over the net and found nothing about this, lots of topics about the RPC but they keep saying that something is wrong with the DNS or the Domain Controller. We are not using any of these, we connect to the server via static IP and not by name, even then we have pinged the server name and all is fine, same for the IP. We have the server setup in a VM using VMware Server 1.05, if this makes any difference.
- Client: I'm using Siemens Simatic NET OPC Server and I have some questions about the DCOM configurations on the client. When using OPC Scout as an opc client the client connects ONLY if I added the server's user to the launch and access permissions on the client side. When using PVSSII 3.0 OPC client the client connects to the server even when the server's user isn't in the launch and access permissions on the client side. According to Microsoft KB268550 "Access and Launching permissions are only set on the server side". Why does adding the server's user to the launch and access permissions on the CLIENT's dcom configuration solve the OPC scout problem. Why does the PVSS opc client work without that config? In what way is it different than the OPC Scout?
- Client: I am trying to debug a VB app which remotely connects to the OPC server. When I am stepping thru the code in VB, I receive a permission denied error when connecting to the server. However, when I compile the code into an executable, it works fine remotely. We have even created a program that simply connects and reads one tag, it does the same thing. I have went thru the DCOM permissions with the server supplier and verified all my DCOM settings were correct. I feel it is some sort of permission issues when inside VB debugging versus running it standalone as an executable. Any help is greatly appreciated.
- Client: We are running numerous Experion R3.x systems within our facility and I would like to monitor the "Synchronization" status of the ESVTs. Do you know the tag name of the "status", within the "HWhsc.OPCServer"?
- Client: My SCADA uses OPC server from reputed vender and the system locks up often. Where do I start to troubleshoot?
- Client:My SCADA system was installed 1 year ago that I have inherited. The vendor used XP and Windows 2000 server. I am concerned if I have to replace the PC due to hardware failure, how to get PC with older and obsolete OS?
- Client: Our system builds very complicated reports. The contractor useda well-known SCADA software, and used Microsoft Excel for reporting. Several occasions the data in reports is corrupt & inconsistent with HMI data. Please help.
- Client: Our SCADA system that we got after acquisition has a very poor user interface. It takes more clicks & unnecessary mouse travel to accomplish our daily chores.
- Client: I am using MS VB.Net (that I learnt at college) to build front end to my SCADA. A consultant told me to use OPC for PLC Communication. I looked at Matrikon, Kepware and a couple of other OPC vender’s websites and downloaded some examples. They appear to be convoluted and unmanaged code. Any better way to skin the cat?
- Client:My SCADA system has a need to do dynamic & advanced reporting for my users & Clients. The SCADA vendor tells me their product cannot do that kind of reporting. They suggested to use MS Excel, or MS SQL server. Any ideas?
- Client: We are using iFix, RS View and Iconics Genesis at three different parts of my plant. I have a need to pass data after some complicated algorithm to my experts system that is done in Microsoft C #. I was told to use VBA by all of the HMI vendors as per them; it is embedded in their product. After consulting my IT expert, I found that VBA is an obsolete technology. Can you help?
- Client: My SCADA system has a very poor update rate and also becomes unresponsive sometimes. The recovery is to perform a hard reboot. I reviewed the task manager and saw way too many applications running. I am suspecting that is the problem. Please advise.
- Client: We have a large PLC system with several pumps, Valves & other ancillary equipment. Our operation modes change very often. My PLC consultant is always reworking the program. This costs us time & money. Any ideas?
